In this masterclass, Pedro Fernandes and Timon Van Wynsberghe from Arqui9 will guide you through the workflow and thought-process to come up with stunning environmental matte-paintings.

Part 01
Introduction, Initial ideas & moodboarding
In the first part of the masterclass, we’ll start with a brief introduction and then dive into the thought process behind the ideas and how to create an effective and clear moodboard.
Part 02
Value sketching & Thumbnailing
We will explore how using value sketching and Thumbnailing can improve the efficiency of your workflow. This part will be focusing on composition, values, lighting and storytelling.
Part 03
Photobashing the base & matte painting techniques
Following our moodboard and selected thumbnail, we will create the base of our final visual, going through the fundamentals of photobashing and the most important matte painting techniques.
Part 04
Detailing & final touches
Finally, for the final step we will refine and push the visual to its maximum, creating a portfolio worthy image. We will go through what makes a visual refined enough to be “client ready” and explore a few final touches technique.

Meet the mentors
Pedro Fernandes
The founder and director of Arqui9.
During the years of its career in Archviz, Pedro built Arqui9 and maintained the company at an Industry-leading level. Recently, he was awarded the best non-commissioned image at the 3D Architects awards at the D2 convention.
He has been teaching and creating tutorials for as far as 2014, coming up with some of the most iconics videos about Archviz on youtube, gathering a community of 110 000 subscribers.
Timon Van Wynsberghe
Lead multimedia artist at Arqui9.
As one of our team leaders, Timon has an experience of leading projects within Arqui9, working for clients such as Zaha Hadid, Newtecnic, BIG, AECOM, Aedas and many more for more than 3 years.
Timon makes recurrent apparitions on the Arqui9 youtube channel, and is working closely with Pedro on the tutorials.
